How do I securely share a file with someone who does not use Sookasa?

Sookasa makes it easy to share securely with people who don't have Sookasa.

From the Sookasa desktop applicaiton:

With the Sookasa application installed on your computer, you can right-click any encrypted file in Sookasa from Windows Explorer or Mac Finder and select Share Securely via Sookasa:

On Mac, you can also select the file you'd like to send, and click the Sookasa icon to the left of the Search bar in the Finder window:

If you need to share multiple items at a time, you can do so by first compressing them into a .zip file. Highlight the files you'd like to send, and right-click your selection. You will be given the option to Compress these files.

(On Windows: right-click your selection, select "Send to" and choose .zip file)

This will create a .zip file within your Sookasa folder. You can rename the file, or send it as-is, using the "Share Securely via Sookasa" option.

After you've selected the file(s) you'd like to send and selected Share Securely via Sookasa, enter your recipients' email addresses. If you'd like to send to multiple recipients, separate each address with a comma. Re-enter the email addresses to confirm.

You can also add an optional note. When Sookasa emails the download link to your recipients, we'll include this message.

Set the link's expiration. After this period, the file's download link will expire and recipients will no longer be able to download the file from that link.

Click Send file. Each recipient will receive an email from Sookasa that includes a link to access the file.

From Sookasa on iOS (iPhone, iPad)

Open the Sookasa app on your iOS device, and navigate to the file you're looking to send. Once there, click the three blue vertical dots to the right of the file, and you'll see an option pop up at the bottom of your screen to Share Securely

You will then be taken to a page to enter your recipients' email addresses.

Once your recipient clicks the link, the file will download directly to their computer. Access will be audited by Sookasa to make sure you are remain in compliance.

Once the recipient has accessed the link, that link will no longer be available. If you need to give the same recipients access to that file later, please revoke the link from the File Delivery tab of your Sookasa Dashboard, and generate a new link for them.

Is the file the recipient receives not encrypted? I assume it must be as they don't have the key and don't have the Sookasa app installed.

    Hi Ed,

You're right about that. When the recipient clicks on the secure link, our server decrypts and serves the file to them via SSL. This all happens behind the scenes so your recipient can work on this file as they normally would once it's downloaded.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Best,
    Celia

Since upgrading to OS X El Capitan, the Share Securely via Sookasa line has been missing from the menu when right clicking on a file. I also noticed the Dropbox lines were missing as well. I ended up fixing the Dropbox problem by disabling/re-enabling the Finder integration option, then clicking the Fix Permissions button (see Curtis R.'s post here: https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/204200496-Lost-Finder-Integration-in-OS-X-10-11-El-Capitan-#community_comment_207941083).

Unfortunately, I am still unable to share files using Sookasa on both my Mac Pro and Macbook, which are both running El Capitan. If you have a solution for this, please let me know.

    Dear Sookasa,

I was able to use the file delivery or share a file securely with Sookasa with someone who does not use Sookasa with the link but now when I try to share the file, it takes me to a different webpage. I do not see where to enter the recipient's e-mail address. Thank you!

    Hi Stanley,

When you right-click on an individual file in the Sookasa folder, we'll take you to a web page where you can enter the recipient's email address. Any chance you right-clicked on a folder rather than a file? If helpful, please get in touch with us at support@sookasa.com with a screenshot of what appears after you right-clicked.

    Thanks,
    Celia

Any way you can share a file securely through the iPad app?  Adding that feature if it's not there already would be immensely helpful when out in the field and would have me sold on busing the sookasa service.

I keep getting a "File Not Found" message when following these steps. I have restarted my laptop and still no dice. Any suggestions? I also tried exporting the file as a PDF first (was originally in Pages) but nothing.

    Hi Elissa,

Thank you for reaching out to us. The "File not Found" error usually means that the file has not finished syncing to the Drive's cloud yet. Would you mind checking if the file is visible from https://drive.google.com? If it is, please try resharing and let me know if you still run into problems. Thank you!
